Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio

[Dined on December 3, 2016] Ancora waterfront dining and patio is located by False creek right next to the Granville bridge. You can actually look across and see Granville island from their window side tables. I can’t wait for patio season! Their menu is just as satisfying as their decor and ambiance.Ancora is a Japanese and Peruvian inspired restaurant. First of it’s kind; a brilliant combination. I really enjoyed my anniversary dinner here. The high ceiling and large windows are so inviting and the service was excellent. In addition to their food, there has been a lot of talk over their cocktail menu. They’re taking Japanese whiskey, and making state-of-the-art cocktails out of it.

  • HAMACHI CARPACCIO: jalapenos, shiso in yuzu infused dressing. 3.5/5
    • The hamachi was a little thicker than I would prefer. It was fresh and very fatty which made it a very heavy appetizer
  • SCALLOP AND PRAWN: tiradito style, yam, edamamejalapeno, rocoto harissa crema 5/5
    • This was my favourite dish of the night. It was my first time have ceviche tradito style
    • The crema went well with the delicate and light flavours of the scallop and prawn
  • BUTTERNUT SQUASH AND LOBSTER BISQUE: sablefish croquette, chive crème fraiche 5/5
    • The soup came out piping hot and was silky smooth
    • The sablefish croquette was a nice compliment to the soup
  • PANCA GLAZED SABLEFISH: yam & oregano pavé, chermoula, roasted fennel, wild leek and orange vinaigrette 4/5
    • The pavé and the glaze was delicious; however I found it a little overpowering for the sablefish after finishing the whole plate
    • Because the sablefish itself is so buttery and tasty, there was a lot going on but still so good
  • SAFFRON LINGUINE with uni butter sauce and sturgeon caviar 3.5/5
    • I love anything with uni but I found that because the uni sauce was so strong in flavour, I couldn’t really taste the caviar
    • The linguine was al dente but very sticky, it was difficult to eat at times
  • O SHOGATSU: nikka pure grain whisky, house chocolate-maple liqueur bittered sling suius cherry bitters 5/5
    • Loved this cocktail; the after taste of house chocolate-maple liquer leaves me wanting more
    • Must-try for whiskey lovers
  • JAPANESE COCKTAIL (IMPROVED) ca. 1860s, NEW YORK: hennessy vs cognac, lemon, orgeat, orleans bitters 3/5
