Meloty Fine Tea – Richmond, BC

Meloty Fine Tea has been around for at least 10 years but they were closed down for renovation for about 2 or so years (not sure what took so long). When I was in elementary school, it used to be a tea house popular among the Chinese housewives of Vancouver. Recently, I went with my mom for mothers day for their Afternoon tea deluxe ($25.00 per person) and was really disappointed. Although they had a large tea selection, I was not impressed. They brought out a tier of scones and other savory snacks (e.g. giant sandwiches, sephard’s pie, miniature pizzas) but I felt like the hors d’oeuvres were too filling and were not meant for an afternoon tea (a.k.a. a light meal before dinner). Afterwards, the waitress brought out a tray of desserts to pick from. The reason I was even more unsatisfied was because the service wasn’t great. On my way to the bathroom I tripped and the waitress actually had the nerve to burst out laughing; How rude!

  • Ambiance 4/5
  • Service 3/5
  • Tea 3/5
  • Savoury snacks 2/5
  • Desserts 3/5

Verdict: Meloty has beautiful decorations and looks very elegant but I would not go back for their afternoon tea. For $25.00, go to The Sutton Place Hotel on Burrard and Nelson!
